When Cats Pray

Mahatma Gandhi once said, “Prayer is not asking. It is a longing of the soul. It is a daily admission of one’s weaknesses. It is better in prayer to have a heart without words than words without a heart.” Prayer is a communion of the physical and the divine. It is man’s way of being in tune with the divine and somehow uplifts its spirit from all the stress that the world has. It is through prayers that man achieves a sense of well-being. But, it is not only man that prays; even animals seek divine intervention and guidance on what to do with their daily whereabouts. Like human, they too seek spiritual communion with God, and be one with the divine. Seeing a child praying fervently in the church’s pew could be one very heart warming moment. It is like an innocent cherub is asking for guidance from above to lead him to the right direction in this vale of tears. Such scene could be one of the cutest things you will ever see, as it portrays innocence and purity of heart. But, a cuter scene than a child praying in the Church’s pew, is the picture of a cat whose paws are somewhat joined together in prayer; while the cat’s head is somewhat glancing and looking up above, on the heavens, asking for miraculous interventions of some sort. Cats really have this unique way of charming people; and with its prayer-like gesture plus the innocence of sending its prayers to the one above is really a very good symbolism that makes it even more endearing. And if ever you would see your cat do such act, you would for sure feel a gladdening in your heart. Well, the cat’s act could be perceived as praying-gesture or it could be that the cat is just begging you to give it food or asking you to pet it. But, either way, whether the cat is praying or not, it is still a very gladdening scenario. But, in case you haven’t seen your cat do the act of praying; well, you just have to observe your pet even more, so that you will be more charmed by it. Whatever the cat is doing, be it contemplating, meditating, praying or just merely trying to get your attention for you to give it foods; well, it is still a very good scenario to observe. It is one that will take your breath away, and will leave you saying “Ahhh,” or you might wonder why your cat is praying. But ultimately, it is a good scene to observe. Well, have you camera ready...

They somehow sniff to know the scent of each other, trying to remember if they’d ever met this feline in one instance, and they visually inspect one another as they walk in circles. And then, the ‘fight begins.’ One cat leaped to the other cat, showing off its huge physique, and trying to topple the other cat with its surprise leap. And the other cat leaped as well, maybe in surprise or its instinct just tells it to leap as well. But, are they really fighting? Or are they play-fighting? Well, they are play-fighting! If it shocked you the first time you encountered it, well it’s just play and its normal for cats to do it. It could be a way for them to respond in future encounters with other felines as well.
